Humorous Maddie

I have to say nothing tickles me more than my teen daughter and her escapades.

She is a beautiful and talented young woman who can do most anything she puts her mind to. Unfortunately she has decided that sandwich-artist is something that she does not want to put her mind to. She would like to quit the Subway business. Her first day was "long" and "hard" and her 10 minute break was "only 5 minutes because they kept asking me to do stuff". Her first day was supposed to be training, but within 3 minutes of entering the store, she was briskly making a sandwich. So briskly that she cut her finger and bled all over the sandwich-she didn't realize it until she was rolling the sandwich up (customer #1 "Um.. I didn't want blood on my sandwich, just ranch please."). Sandwich + blood = totally mortified sandwich artist. The blood incident was actually later in her long 4 hour shift. Her very first sandwich was a beautiful feat of homemaking skills until she went to squirt mustard on it and she squished it too hard and a big ol' glob of mustard plopped on the turkey/bacon/ranch (customer #2 "Um.. I really didn't want that much mustard on my sandwich"). Sandwich + 1 cup of yellow mustard = teen angst to the max.

She didn't appreciate that the 2 other sandwich artists made her wash all of the dishes because they said it was the worst clean-up job. However, as bad as that was, she said she would have rather washed dishes for 4 hours than face making another sandwich. Poor girl. Gotta love her.

I knew she would come home totally bugged.

It really made my night. ;)

Random Summer Moments

West Jordan City Park is such a fun park to go to.
This was my first time taking the kids, and they had a lot of fun.
This is a picture of Sadie going in to the 2 story slide building thingy..

Luke using the excavator

Sadie is a cowgirl at heart!

Kilroy was here.

This park has so many fun and different features, although
it freaks me out a little bit because it is so big with many
places for the kids to hide from Mom.

Even though Daddy was sick with the flu, he came to see us at the park..
We love you Daddy!!

Having fun!

I'm pretty sure he will never be an olympic long jumper.
This is mid-jump as he is trying to clear a little stream that is about 2 inches wide.

Hey, ladies..
Yeah, I come here often.
You?

Isn't she delicious?

Poor Ryan..
He had his hands full at this swim lesson.

Sadie and Chloe and Lyndi
being somewhat attentive to Ryan

Luke trying to his best to have a near drowning experience

Luke plucking the entire plant out of the garden for our first yellow zucchini

The first fruits of our labor..
I know, sorta pathetic.
But Luke was excited!!

Maddie's 16th Birthday Cake from
Sooo yummy!
Yes, I copied NieNie

Sadie enjoying some of Maddie's cake
or should I say enjoying the frosting off of the cake.

"Hi! Welcome to Subway! What can I make for you today?"
Seriously, she is so mad at me for taking this picture... I am "so annoying!" (add eyeroll)

Whoopsie daysie!! I tipped her over trying to get a picture..

1/2 of a picture...
She's 1/2 cute...

Holy Busy Summer!!!

I might lose my mind with all of our activities we have recently had, but there have been some precious moments captured that I would like to remember..

Maddie is not precious however.... She will never let me take a picture. Especially when she is wearing "a man shirt" (her Subway shirt happens to be a Men's shirt-- oh the horror!!). Love you and your green Subway (men's) shirt.. Proud of you and your sandwich-making self!!! Hey your shirt matches your CAR-- so awesome!!! GREEN IS YOUR COLOR!

Kidding, she is a regular pyromaniac...

I got to go to Girls Camp with our ward this year.  Initially, I was excited to spend some time with Maddie and the other wonderful girls in our ward.  However, after our Zion trip, I was a bit exhausted with travel and being dirty and I just sorta wanted a break-you know, sleep  in my own bed.  But, I packed up and and sucked it up and drove me and 5 gorgeous girls to camp.

We had a great ride up and I enjoyed watching the "young ones" laughing and talking and singing along to their glorious IPODs.  What would these girls do without their electronics? I'll tell you- they truly get anxiety when they don't have reception for their phones.  I had 2 of the older girls describing their condition to me: sweaty palms, tightness in their chest, itchy feeling in their thumbs, ears anxiously waiting for that tell-tell ring or vibration.  As their "bars" (reception)  decrease, their condition worsens.  I had to laugh at the furtive glances at their phones as they got further and further away from a signal tower.  Finally, no bars.

Must talk to each other? Face to Face?

Must look at other human when communicating?

What do I do with my hands?

Need to text.

Going to die.

No reception.

I feel sick.

Must lay down.

So disturbing, but so funny.

On the way home, I had one of these Electronic Socialites riding with me and of course she was thrilled when she finally got her bars back.  She was even more happy when she realized she had 15 messages (in 2 days, mind you).  Makes me feel oh-so-old and so unimportant.  I had no missed calls or messages.

Despite a fierce migraine that I got to experience during my time at camp, I had fun with the girls and learned to love and respect them and the other leaders even more than I already had. I have hope for the future when I am around these future mothers and teachers.  I feel privileged to be associated with them.

And I guess I should.. 15 messages in 2 days! Can we say "popular"?

Part One and Two of Rasmussen Rendevous (so so late)

This shirt used to be white.
Then Maddie went on a ride with her Dad.
Somewhere, somehow, they found mud..

My diagnosis? Leprosy

Ridin' dirty...

Sai after a 4-wheeler ride with Todd and his Dad.
I am not so sure he had fun.

The best part of our vacation was when Grandpa
decided to "man up" and jumped in the pool,
fully clothed!
Unfortunately, I did not capture that exact moment.
But, it is frozen in time in my brain.

This is what happens with the Rasmussen's.
To find Sadie in this picture it is like
"Where's Waldo" with all of the
ridiculous amounts of food we all brought.
We have a serious problem.
We all acknowledge that we do, but we don't stop.
Starving kids in Africa, economy from hell??
Don't matter to us, we will overplan,
overcook, overshop
overEAT!!
That's right. We will not be stopped, nor scaled back.

We found the amphitheater and the kids thought they would
put on a musical production for us.
As you can see, Jake is wondering what is wrong with his
silly cousins..

Luke loves these two so much!

Praying for a growth spurt

I am concerned about the welfare of my son.

He is playing football again this year.  He is a tough kid, but I am concerned.

The kids his age seem to be slightly bigger than he is.  By about 12 inches and a hundred pounds.

The boy in the blue pants was in one of Tanner's classes this last year.  He is a month younger than Tanner.

Tanner is the one in the black.

"I believe our problems, almost every one, arise out of the homes of the people. If there is to be reformation, if there is to be a change, if there is to be a return to old and sacred values, it must begin in the home. It is here that truth is learned, that integrity is cultivated, that self-discipline is instilled, and that love is nurtured."
